I’ve been using Vista Ultimate for over a month now. I upgraded from XP Pro [LINK]. Now that Vista has actually been released it’s time for a brief synopsis of my experience thus far:
First of all the machine I’m using is a fairly beefy machine, an AMD 4200 dual core with 2GB of RAM and a hefty nVidia 7800 graphics card. The upgrade took about 2 hours from inserting the CD to being back to (almost) full productivity.

Tonight I updated my home machine to Windows Vista Ultimate. I don’t have time for a full post (the install took 2+hrs) but first impressions are generally positive. Flip3D is a nice bell and Aero is a nice whistle. Apart from that the computer seems roughly the same (thank God).

An un-released OS running on an machine that doesn’t exist? Count me in!
Virtual PC Server 2005 R2 is an amazing piece of software. I have used Virtual PC 2004 many times to test out Longhorn, checkout various Linux distros etc. all with great success. Never had I tried Virtual PC Server. Until tonight.
Incredibly frustrated with various events of the day, I decided to take matters into my own hands and install the Feb CTP of Vista on my home PC. Unfortunately Vista CTP doesn’t play that nice with VPC …
