So this week my book was listed on Amazon. Of course it’s only available for pre-order but still nice to see the listing up there.
Here’s the link.
Don’t let the title fool you, this will be fairly in-depth technically (I hope).
The listed description is innaccurate and will be updated soon. Here’s a more accurate description of the content, still draft however.
* Building a generic REST platform with ASP.NET
2.0
* Using publically available APIs such as Yahoo Search, eBay and YouTube
* Combining …

As some of you may or may not know I am currently writing a book. Hence the lack of updates to this site.
Writing a book is hard.
It’s not because of the writing, or the research or the formatting of what you’ve written according to the publisher’s template or the screenshots or the code or the ideas or making it interesting.
Writing a book is hard because you’re writing a book. You’re not writing an article, the end is not in sight but rather the end is very very …

In the last few weeks I have been working steadily on a book for Wrox. This book will be published sometime before the Christmas holidays, assuming I finish it on time. It’s quite a challenge but I am slowly settling into things. Needless to say it’s eating up a lot of my time and hence the auld blog is taking a backseat.
I have always thought it would be nice to write a book, to be able to say I’d done that and even to visit a book store and maybe …

Reuters reports today that Ireland leads the world in Google searches for the word “lonely”.
Does that make us a lonely nation? This report doesn’t take into account the emmigrants that search from other country’s ISPs.
Is it mere coincidence that “The Rain Song” is one of my favourite songs of all time?
But does the logic hold? If you search for “lonely” does that mean you ARE lonely? Surely you’d be searching for “some company” if you were lonely. Perhaps the Irish have too much company and are researching …

Time was you could rely on the BBC far more than RTE for the accurate news. Recent times however have seen a drastic decline in the quality of the news broadcast. This example typifies the seat-of-the-pants research these idiots are doing: Wrong Guy Kewney. For those that don’t know, Guy Kewney is a British Columnist and editor of newswireless.net. The guy in the video is a French cab driver. Easy mistake to make.

I spent this week in WCF (Windows Communication Foundation) training. Now I went into the class already knowing my way around an endpoint but the trainer (Juval Lowy) was able to show me a thing or two that “only a few people in the world know”. Not sure if I’ll have occasion to use such esoteric knowledge but quite a good session and I can understand why he calls it his “WCF Master Class”.
Juval is an interesting guy and he and I share a common view on a number …

E3 2006 saw a new preview of the Zelda – Twilight Princess. Not sure about that WII (pronounced “wee” as in “I need to take a wee”) controller thing. Looks like a shoelace tied between two matchboxes and I’m sure I’ll rip it asunder. At least Nintendo have introduced some innovation into it though through a speaker and 3D sound from the controller to the screen.
In other “wireless wavy motion controller thing news”, Sony have unveiled the new controller for the Playstation 3 Link.
In an embarrasing move they …

Beautiful moment occuring tonight, well tomorrow morning really: 01:02:03 04:05:06
Unfortunately the bass ackwards date format here in the U.S.A will ruin it for us.
For that unique moment, which will not occur again for another hundred years, I will imagine myself back in Dublin, with its associated dd/mm/yy date format, staring out the window at the rain falling on the dirty-old-town.
