They say running is 90% mental, the rest is in your head. I’ll test that next Saturday with a 50km(31.5 miles) run in the woods. I haven’t done much in the way of running since the Mega so I’ve decided to kick the New Year off right with the Winter Watchung ultra. It should be a death march but hopefully will kick my butt back into gear.

In preparation for this race I am…drinking water and trying to eat a tonne of veggies. The holidays have left me bloated and flabby so this is like a cleanse type deal. I’m sure there’s already a fitness program out there to do this but this is the ghetto-seat-of-the-pants method.
Nothing kicks your butt like 50km of running in the woods. At least I haven’t found anything so far. Unlike a road marathon where you can zone-out and just go to your happy place, with trail running you’ve got to stay engaged. Constantly checking foot placement, every step is a decision and if you zone out you’ll end up on your ass.
This will be my 2nd time running this race and my 4th or 5th distance over 26miles. Not looking to set any records, just to keep moving and finish without injury. Will report back after the race.
